Spokesman for Iran's Supreme National Security Council Keivan Khosravi mocked at the recent remarks by White House Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook that the anti-Iran sanctions are meant to safeguard the US national security. RNA - “The US national security is threatened by that country’s own unwise leaders whose unilateral, unlawful and tension-building decisions have turned the whole world against that country,” Khosravi said.
Khosravi’s remarks came in reaction to the recent comments by US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook who said that the aim of imposing sanctions on Iran was to prevent threats against the US national security.
“The US’ failure to comply with legal obligations and its instrumental use of economic sanctions and economic terrorism that is pursued with no goal other than to put pressure on the livelihood, health and development of the Iranian people, is a stupid justification for a crime against the people who, with all instances of broken promises to them, are still abiding by their commitments,” Khosravi added.
According to Fars News Agency, in relevant remarks earlier in December, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a tweet, once again reminded the European signatories of the nuclear deal that Tehran’s ballistic missiles are under no ban under the nuclear deal and UN Resolution 2231, reminding that US special representative for Iran Brian Hook has also admitted the fact.
“Brian Hook has given our E3 JCPOA partners a timely reminder, openly admitting that missile testing is NOT prohibited in Security Council Resolution 2231,” tweeted Zarif, after the trio of Britain, France and Germany who make up the three European signatories of the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), forwarded a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The trio made the allegation that Iran’s ballistic missile activity is “inconsistent” with the call in a council resolution endorsing the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. quoting Hook as saying, "One of the deficiencies of the Iran nuclear deal is that it ENDED the prohibition on Iran's ballistic missile testing."
