RNA – On June 12th, The Islamic University of Science and Technology in Kashmir signed a ‎memorandum of understanding with the University of Islamic Denominations in Iran.‎

The Islamic University of Science and Technology is a government university located in ‎Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, India.‎

The University of Religions and Denominations is a teaching and research centre in Qom, ‎Iran which focuses on the study of religions and Islamic sects.‎

The initiative has been taken to have academic and research collaborations between the two ‎universities.‎

In this regard a function was organised at the Islamic University of Science and Technology ‎which was attended by the Iranian representatives. As per the hand out issued, the event ‎started with a lecture on Quranic Hermeneutics delivered by the Rector of the University of ‎Islamic Denominations, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad-Hoseyn Mokhtari.‎

The lecture was organized by the International Centre for Spiritual Studies (ICSS) of the ‎Islamic University of Science and Technology.‎

Hujjat al-Islam Mokhtari in his address explained Friedrich Schleiermacher’s theory of ‎Hermeneutics and deliberated on the three modes of Hermeneutics: Classic, Romantic and ‎Philosophical.‎

‎“Most of the thinkers are in agreement with the fact that the ‘text is ambiguous’ and thereby ‎emphasise on tracing the intentions of the author to arrive at a final message of the text,” ‎he said.‎

The lecture was followed by signing a memorandum of understanding between the University ‎of Islamic Denominations and the Islamic University of Science and Technology which was ‎signed by the Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Professor ‎Mushtaq A. Siddiqi and Hujjat al-Islam Mokhtari.‎

Hujjat al-Islam Mokhtari was accompanied by a group of scholars from Iran which included ‎Dr. Yahya Jahangiri, the Vice Rector, University of Islamic Denominations, Hujjat al-Islam ‎Gholam-Reza Raeisian, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies at Ferdowsi ‎University in Mashhad and Dr. Zahrani, the Former Deputy of Education Minister of Iran.‎
