Iran's President Hassan Rouhani says an inclusive and enthusiastic popular turnout in this Friday's parliamentary elections will enrage the United States, stressing the significant role of the legislative chamber in moving forward government efforts to thwart Washington’s sanctions.
Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the secretary of Iran’s Guardian Council (GC), which vets candidates for elections, has highlighted the importance of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the country, calling on observers of the votes to help executive committees hold “healthy and lawful elections” under close scrutiny and without interference in the voting process.
It was a necessary step taken by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) to strike a US base in Iraq in January in response to the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and his companions, says the spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry.
