Iranian envoy to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi on the anniversary of the liberation of Mosul from ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant also known as ISIS and Daesh) occupation by Iraqi popular forces and help of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

Rasa - Masjedi, in his message, congratulated liberation of Mosul from ISIL terrorists to Iraqi premier, government, political and religious leaders, army, Popular Forces, security forces, police, Peshmerga and tribes who played major role in this victory.

He underlined Senior Iraqi religious leader Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Sistani’s historic fatwa which played significant role in Iraqis’ fight against ISIL criminals.

This great victory proved that Iraqi government and people can remove every obstacle with unity and cooperation, the envoy added.

Masjedi also commemorated martyr Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who were the main commanders in defeating ISIL in Iraq.Masjedi once again condemned Washington’s criminal act to assassinate these two anti-terrorist commanders.

Mosul fell in June 2014, when the ISIL in an attack took control of the city. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul on October 16, 2016.

The Eastern part of Mosul was recaptured from the ISIL in about three months and the most populated part of the city, known as the Old City of Mosul, in the Western bank of Tigris River was liberated in early July, 2017.
