Nearly 56,000 coronavirus positive cases have recovered from the infectious disease in Iran, the Health Ministry spokesman said, adding that the daily death toll from COVID-19 in the country dropped for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday.

RNA - Speaking at a daily press conference, Kianoosh Jahanpoor put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 5,031, saying the disease has taken the lives of 73 patients over the past 24 hours, down from 89 a day earlier, and marking the lowest number of deaths since more than a month ago.

He also noted that at least 55,987 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has risen to 80,868 following the detection of 1,374 new cases since Friday noon, the spokesman added.

Among the patients undergoing treatment in the medical centers at present, 3,513 ones have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Jahanpoor noted.

He went on to say that more than 330,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 2,261,000 and the death toll has exceeded 154,700.
