RNA – In an exclusive interview with Rasa News Agency, Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad-Naser Saqaye-Biria, a member of the Imam Khomeyni Educational and Research Institute, said, “It is clear from the principles of religion that it is obligatory to protect one’s life and others from any danger, including illness, accidents, drowning etc.”

His Eminence said that if the fulfillment of this obligation requires a preliminary action, it’s obligatory to provide it and added, “For example, if the salvation of some believers depends on a medication and supplying it is in our power, we must supply it.”

He considered doing the obligatory preliminary actions as obligatory and explained, “Especially in the case of contagious diseases, all measures which are necessary to protect one’s life and that of others are obligatory as an obligatory introduction.”

Hujjat al-Islam Saqaye-Biria emphasized the need for health experts to address COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and added, “Experts on the Coronavirus insist that we stay home and only leave our houses when necessary in order to break this contagious disease and it is necessary and essential for people to observe this advice to eliminate this disease.”

His Eminence emphasized that it’s necessary to stay inside one’s house to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and noted, “If someone who needs to make a purchase and doesn’t have the ability to shop online, should make a one-time exit from their home and do their errands in one go to reduce the number of times they visit the shopping centres and stores. If preventing the disease depends on these actions, it’s obligatory because it preserves the lives of oneself and others.”

He said that the Islamic society must even strive to protect the lives of non-Muslims and noted, “Those who are under the protection of the Islamic society, though not Muslim, have the rights
of that society and the Islamic government must also take action to protect their lives.”

Hujjat al-Islam Saqaye-Biria emphasized the need for the people to observe the health and hygiene recommendations raised by experts and said, “The government must enact laws to control the movement of people.”

In conclusion, he stated, “The rational people and the government must plan to make people obey what is recommended and that planning must also be announced to the people so that they can observe the obligations and get rid of the virus.”
