Authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir have ordered the closure of schools, colleges and universities after the region reported its first cases of the novel coronavirus infection.

RNA - The pandemic and the closure of educational institutions which had opened in the region after almost 7 months led to a wave of panic and uncertainty in Kashmir, with many questioning the statistics released by the government.

Many are already concerned about a shortage of protective equipment.

The first case of coronavirus was reported in the Jammu region while dozens of people with Coronavirus-like symptoms are under surveillance in Kashmir's only tertiary care hospital.

According to Press TV, the COVID-19 pandemic seems to have caught the authorities in Indian-controlled Kashmir off-guard. The government’s unpreparedness has led to panic and chaos across the region where people are demanding more serious measures to protect health, safety, and well-being of the community.
