The US will hold an international summit next month in Poland “to promote stability and freedom in the Middle East”, focusing on Iran’s regional influence, said US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

RNA - “We'll bring together dozens of countries from all around the world,” said Pompeo, announcing the February 13-14 event in Poland.

“Countries will all come together to focus on Middle East stability and peace and freedom and security here in this region, and that includes an important element of making sure that Iran is not a destabilizing influence,” Pompeo told Fox News, while traveling in the Middle East.

Pompeo added that the summit will bring together countries from Asia, Africa, the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and the Middle East.

The announcement is the latest step in the Trump administration’s pursuit of what it calls a "pressure campaign" against Iran that includes withdrawing from the Iran nuclear agreement and restoring sanctions the US once lifted as part of the deal.

The United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, Russia, Iran, and the European Union have remained in the agreement and have criticized the Washington’s withdrawal from it.
