Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, underlined that given the mistakes made by US President Donald Trump and the pressures exerted on him from the politicians inside the country, his impeachment by the congress is highly possible.

RNA - Atwan wrote on Monday that almost all political analysts believe that Trump is under the strongest pressures for corruption, bribery, fooling the US public opinion and his failed foreign policy, and there is a high risk for his impeachment and dismissal from the post.

According to him, such criticism is fueled by Trump’s increasingly isolated behavior in the White House, the ongoing government shutdown and unsolved trade wars instigated by the president himself while special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is also expected to wrap up in February.

Also, Trump is also in trouble for his confusing policies in the Middle-East, including the Deal of Century, staunch support for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman after his mistakes in launching the Yemen war and killing of Jamal Khashoggi, Atwan added.

"The decision to withdraw forces from Syria and Afghanistan have also decreased his popularity and shattered his awe in the political and military circles ruling the US," he stressed.

Atwan predicted that Trump, like his dismissed foreign and defense secretaries, will soon be forced to step down, an issue which has spread fear among Washington's allies in the Middle-East, including Israel and the Persian Gulf Arab states.

In relevant remarks on Friday, Atwan had referred to the withdrawal of the US forces from Syria and the Arab states' decision to reopen their embassies in Damascus, stressing that 2019 would bring failure for Washington and victory for the resistance front.

"The year 2019 will be the year of victories (for the resistance) and failure for the US plots in the region and return of honor to the regional states," Atwan said in an interview.

"Syria won because it resisted and the Arab countries are happily reopening their embassies in Damascus. The resistance front gained victory in the region. Israel is in horror now. Hezbollah is growing its power in the region and is in possession of over 150,000 high-precision missiles," he added.

Atwan noted that Trump had admitted the useless spending of over $7trillion in the Middle-East, saying that he traveled to the US military base in Iraq, while he feared like a mouse.
