Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah stated that reviving the Day of Ghadir means protecting Islamic ‎unity.

RNA – Speaking at an Eid al-Ghadir celebration, Hujjat al-Islam Sayyid Ali Fadhlullah, the ‎Friday prayer leader of Beirut, Lebanon emphasized the support for Islamic unity and the ‎protection of internal unity and said, “Reviving the Day of Ghadir doesn’t mean returning to ‎history but rather it means paying attention to the actions of the Commander of the Faithful, ‎Imam Ali, in the fight against sedition and in support of Islamic unity.”‎

He said that Lebanon was struggling with various problems, especially economic problems, ‎and said, “The enemies are seeking to exploit internal weakness and to obstruct the path of ‎unity between the various movements and groups in Lebanon.”‎

Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah called for the rights of the people to be respected, stating, “The ‎authorities must respect the rights of the citizens and solve their problems.”‎

He added, “The acceptance of the wilayah (guardianship) of Imam Ali is realized by applying ‎his traditions in regard to knowledge, worship, ethics, sacrifice and striving for Islamic unity ‎and jihad in the cause of God.”‎

Eid al-Ghadir is a Shi’ah festival, and is considered to be among the most “significant” ‎festivals of Shi’ah Islam. The Eid is held on 18 Dhul-Hijjah and commemorates the event ‎when the Prophet Muhammad (following instruction from God) was said to have appointed ‎Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib as his successor. ‎
