Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri underlined Iran's full control over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, adding that his forces always monitor the US Navy's moves in the region.

RNA - "In the past, for many years, foreign powers, including Portuguese, British and the Americans, used to attack our seas, colonized our territory and conducted their oppressive policies in the Persian Gulf," Rear Admiral Tangsiri said, addressing a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday.

He, meanwhile, said that Iran has now full control over the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Rear Admiral Tangsiri added that while the US and the UK do not allow the Arab states in the Southern side of the Persian Gulf to have their say, Iran is a powerful country that no country dares to interfere in its affairs.

According to Fars News Agancy, he underlined the great importance to Iran’s territorial waters, saying the country has several seas in the South with 2,200 km and in the North about 1,200 km of coastal boundaries.

The IRGC Navy commander further noted that all the movements of the US Navy are observed by the IRGC Navy, which is in charge of the security of territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

In relevant remarks on Tuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described his country as the guardian of security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, saying that regional issues should be resolved through talks among neighbors.

"Iran has and will be the main guardian of security and freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman during history", President Rouhani said.

He, meantime, stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran is not willing to escalate tensions in the region, and will never initiate war and tension.
